Does My Trailer Need To Use Electrical Brakes

Written by Hitchweb Team Thursday, March 6, 2014

Electric Brake - Complete Assembly - Right Side; 10

Q: How do I know if my trailer needs to use Electric Brakes?

A: Throughout the U.S. and Canada, there are laws in place regarding towing practices depending on the State or Province. Since most RV's and campers travel over many States and Provinces, it is always safest to go with the average-to-stringent laws as guidline for any given step. Towing laws can change so make sure to check that the trailer passes the requirements on a yearly basis.

How Are The Aero 2 Towing Mirrors on OEM Mirrors

Written by Hitchweb Team Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Will the Aero 2 Towing Mirrors affect my existing OEM mirrors by;

Scratching or harming the finish?

The instructions do state that the towing mirror may mark the factory mirror finish. However, the wedge that holds the mirror in place comes with an adhesive backed felt liner to help protect the finish. The tightening knob on the back should be tight enough to secure the mirror but avoid over tightening as damage to the OEM mirror may occur.

Making wind noise when attached?

The mirror is designed with aerodynamics in mind to prevent wind noice and vibration. You may still experience some noise and vibration, expecially with a cross wind but the shape of the mirror is such as to make noise and vibrations as little as possible.

Impeding the funtional use of my mirror operation adjustment or fall of when the door is repeatedly opened or closed?

With the towing mirror attached, it will not interfere with the operation adjustments of your existing OEM mirrors. The mirror may need to be adjusted at times due to tightening or repositioning for safe viewing purposes. As for opening and closing...

What Fifth Wheel Will Work On 2014 Dodge Ram 1500

Written by Hitchweb Team Friday, February 28, 2014

What Fifth Wheel system will work on my 2014 Dodge Ram 1500?

There are two systems confirmed for this vehicle:

The first is from B&W Trailer Hitches and you would need to purchase a B&W Gooseneck System and The Companion Fifth Wheel. There is nothing confirmed for a direct Fifth Wheel rail system for the 2014 Dodge Ram pickups.

Purchase a B&W turnover ball system (which is a gooseneck system)

You would also need to purchase the B&W Companion

This system would fit right onto the ball and will not work on the 1500's with the 4 corner air suspension, or on a bed shorter than 6 feet.

The second is a Pullrite SuperGlide system for a 2014 Dodge Ram 5'7 OR 6'6 bed and for 12,000 lbs. only.
You...

4-Bolt vs 10-Bolt Reese 5th Wheel Rail Kits

Written by Hitchweb Team Thursday, February 27, 2014

What is the difference between the 4-Bolt and 10-Bolt Reese 5th Wheel Rail Kits?

10 Bolt Style 5th Wheel & Gooseneck Universal Installation Kit - Gloss Finish

The main difference between the 4-bolt and 10-bolt Reese 5th wheel rail kits is the amount of hardware used to secure the rails to the brackets, as well as the amount of time it takes to install them. For universal installation kits, Reese reccomends using the 10-bolt style kit as the best option for the most security.
