Hello Mr. Harrison, Yes, the B&W Companion 5th Wheel latches on to the trailer ball that is included in the turnover ball kit so it is required that you install it first.

I had no idea you needed to put on the turnover kit first! Some of the manuals I've seen have put the process in a different order. I suppose it just varies by the manufacturer.
