I purchased a Curt class III hitch for my 2001 toyota 4 runner. The hitch was mounted on 3 existing bolt holes in the frame - and the fourth bolt goes into a piece of flatbar which actually extends outside the end of the vehicles frame. It just seems a poor design when other hitches such as a Draw-tite or Hidden Hitch apparently mount with all 4 bolts into the existing frame. As an Engineer its hard to see how this hitch is classified with the same tounge weight etc. as the others but it is. If that mounting info were explained better I would have gone with a different brand.
